Genre Research: Horror and Thriller

Genre Research: Horror and Thriller Horror: Common CAMS Close-ups are very common in the horror genre. This shot can help the audience feel like they're a part of the movie and as though they are feeling the same emotions as the characters and are facing the same threat as them. This allows for an even more frightening viewing experience as watchers will become bystanders to the horrific events that typically occur in horror movies. Hand held camera shots are also very common in the genre, usually in the fake horror documentaries. These shot give a sense of reality to the movie which can make viewers feel like they are actually witnessing the events that are taking place. Another commonly used shot is the establishing shot. This shot not only introduces the setting to the viewers, but it also helps express deception as the horror slowly begins to unfold. One commonly used camera movement is zoom. This movement has a dramatic effect and is used to create an element of suspense and f

Genre Research: Action

Genre Research: Action When doing research on the action genre, another student and I put together this powerpoint on the subject. In order to do this we had to do an extensive amount of research on the different elements of the genre. This included browsing through several websites and watching scenes from various action films on Youtube. By doing this I was able to get a real grasp on the techniques that are commonly used in action films and the genre in general. After our research, my partner and I planned out which elements we would cover in our powerpoint. We then decided that we would split up the work and each do half of the powerpoint. Before anything else, the basic format and style of the powerpoint was laid out. We wanted the powerpoint to be both visually appealing and not too busy or distracting. We ended up choosing one of the formats that came with the program and making small changes to it. The text's font and color was changed. This was done so that the text was ea

My Pitch

Image
My Pitch For this project, I have several vague ideas regarding the type of film I want to do, but I will pitch the two concepts I feel could work the best. The first pitch is a film about a girl, played by me, being kidnapped. This is a pretty common storyline for films and has been used multiple times, but I think I can make the presentation of this idea a bit more unique. Since this is supposed to be an opening sequence and not an entire movie, I want to create a more mysterious atmosphere that leaves the viewer wanting to see what happens. I will either film from the perspective of the kidnapper as they watch the girl before they kidnap her or I will film while the girl is already kidnapped. For the first option, I will have someone from my family handle the camera while filming as if they are hiding while watching my character. This can be achieved by filming behind objects such as bushes or filming from a far distance with shaky camera movements. The other option would include my

Starting the Final Task

Starting the Final Task My name is Eavan Murphy. I am in eleventh grade and I go to Fort Lauderdale High School. I signed up for AICE Media Studies because my sisters had taken it when they were in high school. My sisters said that this was a good class to take and that I would probably like it. This is because for the past couple of years I've had a strong interest in media, specifically in film and television. I have also been interested in film production and how films are made, produced, and distributed. This is one of the key topics we have been covering in media, so this course has been a very engaging experience for me. In addition, I really enjoy watching movies and televisions shows and I watch something almost everyday. I watch several different genres of movies and shows, but I am a rather large fan of classic cinema. However, more recently, I have started watching more animated films and shows. I think animation is an extremely underrated medium because it is often not

Creative Critical Reflection

Image
Creative Critical Reflection 1.) How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? My product both uses and challenges conventions in music videos. My video contrasts most music videos because it has a comical tone. A majority of music videos are more serious and dramatic. However, mine was completely satirical, but was produced in a dramatic way for comedic effect. I think my video also uses conventions because it has theatrical aspects and a storyline that goes along with the song. Even though my video is comical, it does reflect on a common issue in real life which is the idolization of celebrities. I think that a lot of people nowadays, especially with the internet, easily become obsessed with celebrities and public figures. This can become a problem since we obviously don't know celebrities personally and they can be completely different from our idea of them. In addition to that, when a celebrity or public figure does someth

AICE Media Studies Music Video

Image
If I being honest, my video didn't come out the way I wanted. While watching, it doesn't seem like the music matches the video that well. There's a lot a cuts and each scene is very short. This contrasts with the song, which is 4 minutes long and very slow paced. I also think that the ending of the video was very abrupt and the song sounded like it was cut off. I had a lot of trouble editing since it's only supposed to be 1 minute long. I wanted to include the chorus part of the song, but because of that I had to start the song halfway through. However, the song ended up being cut off at the end which I think made the video seem unfinished. I tried my best to fix it, but there's not much I could've done since it can only be a minute long. I also couldn't put any transitions between the scenes to make it less choppy because that would've made it longer. In addition to this, I also think that the story was not very interesting and

Editing Blog

Image
Editing Blog I used iMovie to edit my music video as it came with my mother's MacBook. The first thing I did before I starting editing is I emailed all of the clips I recorded from my phone to myself so that I could access them from my laptop. I then downloaded all of the clips and imported them into iMovie. After that, I put all of the clips into the correct order. I had to edit a few of the clips to make them shorter so that the video would be a minute long. I also had to take a few clips out because they would make the video too long. In addition to that, I also removed the sound from all of the clips since I was going to be applying music over it. Once I finished editing the clips, I had to apply the music. This was definitely the hardest part of the whole editing process. I had to start and cut off the song from very specific points. This is due to the fact that the song is very slow and I wanted the video to include the chorus part of the song. I also had to make sure that th
